Hardly Tell My Own Stories

I like telling stories when
I have an audience,
but I don't get much of one
from my social connections.

Sometimes my family members
become my audience,
such as at family gatherings.

I like to take these opportunities to
tell them stories of all kinds,
frequently inserting my own
past life experiences.

However, my family members usually
stop me from telling my old personal stories
because they have already heard them
a hundred times.

The Bee Gees - Voices

Sweet voices calling wild,
echoing around this child
Sweet Faith I'll be joining you,
when my story's over
Dee doo doo doo dah
dee doo doo
Doo doo doo
dee doo doo doo
dee doo dah day

Small secrets in the wind,
blowing till the end begins
Oh my children stand by me till
my story's over
Dee doo doo doo dah dee doo doo
Doo doo doo
dee doo doo doo
dee doo dah day

If I were you and you were me
those voices they would cease to be
They won't be free to torment me again
But in my bed again last night,
those voices spoke of wrong and right
They spoke of darkness and of light
They spoke of weakness and of might
The spoke of people in the snow
And distant places long ago
The spoke of fire and falling rain
Of health and wealth and death and pain

Nah....

Sweet voices calling wild ,
echoing around this child
Sweet Faith I'll be joining you ,
when my story's over

If I were you and you were me
those voices they would cease to be
They won't be free to torment me again
But in my bed again last night
those voices spoke of wrong and right
They spoke of darkness and of light
They spoke of weakness and of might
They spoke of people in the snow
And distant places long ago
They spoke of fire and falling rain

Of health and wealth and death and pain

Original Intention

An art course instructor said to the students:

“You have paid a significant tuition fee
to learn how to paint.
You really ought to study hard
to paint better and
never forget your original intention.”

I’ve noticed that students enroll in these courses
for very different original intentions.
These purposes include:

Enhancing creative techniques

Expanding art knowledge

Learning from the instructor’s skills

Earning a diploma

Carrying on a painting lineage and style

Widening one's social circle

Seeking creative inspiration

Learning to be an art curator

Aiding a career in arts management

Becoming a creative artist

Becoming a professional painter

Becoming a freelance painter

Becoming an amateur painter

Learning to be an art teacher

Enriching one's life

Healing psychological emotions

Slowing down the pace of life

Leaving behind a footprint of life

Making good use of continuing education funds

Finding like-minded peers

Expanding creative horizons

Mastering a medium to express one's voice

Building a network of contacts

Reclaiming a childhood passion

Climbing the academic ladder

Improving personal image

Elevating one's taste in life

From the Beginning · Emerson, Lake & Palmer

There might have been things I missed
But don't be unkind
It don't mean I'm blind
Perhaps there's a thing or two
I think of, lying in bed
I shouldn't have said
But there it is

You see it's all clear
You were meant to be here
From the beginning

Maybe I might've changed
And not been so cruel
Not been such a fool
Whatever was done is done
I just can't recall
It doesn't matter at all

You see it's all clear
You were meant to be here
From the beginning

Rare Scent-related Memories

Some scents bring me
vivid, sweet memories of the past.
The time, the people, and the place
related to those scents are very specific,
and the memories appear clearly in my mind.

The rarity of these scent-related memories
may be the main reason.

ReoNa「ガジュマル ~Heaven in the Rain~」

If there’s any regret lingering in my heart,

Is it the "goodbye" I could never say?

If regret keeps falling on me

like relentless rain,

Is it because I ran away from the end

that was bound to come?

The grand banyan tree

you planted in the garden

Is drooping its branches, weeping silently.

I loved you—if only I could have said

Those simple words, those few words.

Rain, please dissolve this eternal parting.

Sweetly scented rain tree,

Memories come overflowing.

I want to see you.

I just want to see you so badly.

This grief from losing you—

Will it heal as time goes by?

If my memories must fade away

alongside the pain,

Then I’d rather my wounds never heal.

In the sound of the waves and the breeze,

Under the empty shade of the trees,

I look for you.

Blurring image of your face—

please don't fade away.

When times are painful,

When I lose my way,

When I want to disappear,

Even now, I still think of you.

The banyan tree is weeping.

I loved you—if only I could have said

Those simple words, those few words.

Rain, please dissolve this eternal parting.

Sweetly scented rain tree,

Memories come overflowing.

I want to see you,

I really want to see you.

I want to reach you beyond the rain.

The love song I always wanted to

share with you—

I will sing it now.

Fame is addictive

Fame is attractive and addictive.
But it just doesn't mean anything in the end.

Still, fame can captivate everyone
through its magic of
making connections with others possible,
and thus, fulfilling the psychological need
of feeling successful.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Still...You Turn Me On

Do you wanna be an angel,
do you wanna be a star?
Do you wanna play some magic on my guitar?
Do you wanna be a poet,
do you wanna be my string?
You could be anything
Do you wanna be the lover of
another undercover?
You could even be the man on the moon
Do you wanna be the player,
do you wanna be the song?
Let me tell you something,
it just don't mean a thing
You see, it really doesn't matter
When you're buried in disguise
By the dark glass on your eyes
And though your flesh is crystallized
Still, you turn me on
Oh, you turn me on
Do you wanna be the pillow
where I lay my head?
Do you wanna be the feathers flying in my bed?
Do you wanna be the cover of a magazine?
Create a scene
Every day a little sadder,
a little madder
Someone get me a ladder
Do you wanna be the singer,
do you wanna be the song?
Let me tell you something,
you just couldn't be more wrong
You see, I really have to tell you
That it all gets so intense
From my experience
It just doesn't seem to make sense
Still, you turn me on
Oh, you turn me on
You turn me on

Litter Ranked Differently

Looking down at the pavement while walking,
you might notice litter on the ground,
such as a piece of chewing gum or
a scatter of fallen cherry blossoms.

Both were good things before they became waste.

After they become litter, however,
they can be ranked differently.
Dropped gum is sticky, unsightly and
difficult to remove,
whereas fallen blossoms are loose and
easily swept away.

From a cleaner's perspective,
fallen blossoms should be ranked
higher than dropped gum
for obvious reasons.

Yet, neither the gum nor the blossoms are
likely aware that they are being judged
long after their purpose has ended.

ReoNa - Being alive is already amazing

Listen, the other day,
I almost got hit by a bicycle.
The older guy got so mad and
yelled at me,
"That's dangerous!
Watch where you're walking!"
But, you know,
I just couldn't do it.
I didn't have the energy to lift my head.
I didn't even have the strength to walk,
but I had to go home.
It made me realize that
feet don't just move forward on their own.
Even crossing a single stripe on the crosswalk
took me three steps.

Lately, every day has been like this.
I only notice things like,
"Oh, there's some gum dropped here,"
and I don't even know if the sky
is sunny or cloudy.
But come to think of it—
come to think of it,
I noticed something yesterday.
The manhole cover had cherry blossoms on it.

Listen, sometimes,
there are days when I think,
maybe I'll try to do my best today.
But in the end, I still can't do it,
and I ended up crying on the train.
My face was a complete mess,
and since I couldn't let myself
make a sound in a place like that,
I tried so hard to hold it in.
But then my nose started running,
and it was just so painful, sobbing quietly.
It's only natural, but nobody helped me,
and I felt like I was completely all alone.
Once we reached my station, I forced myself off the train, but I couldn't move for a while.

I was sitting on a bench on the platform.
Then, a group of high school boys
came rushing over,
and they were talking about
a manga over there.
I couldn't help but overhear them.
I used to love that manga and read it too,
and apparently,
it's getting an anime adaptation now.

Listen, I didn't tell anyone about this.
Actually, I couldn't.
I felt like if I said it out loud,
it would seem like it's no big deal.
Everyone else has it worse,
and you know, if you look at the world,
there are people who struggle to
find food or a place to sleep.
Compared to those people,
I'm incredibly fortunate.
But, you know,
it's not about that.
I don't know why, but somehow...

It hurts so much.
Every single day is painful.
Just waking up is agonizing,
but then I can't even sleep.
The other day,
I just didn't know what to do,
and my heart felt so tight.
That's when the girl
sitting two seats away asked me,
"What's wrong? I'm here to listen."
We don't usually talk that much,
but for some reason,
I just blurted everything out and
 balled my eyes out.
And then, you know what she did?
She said, "I see, I see,"
 and stroked my back.
She told me, "You're doing great.
Just being alive makes you amazing."

The Art of Rising and The Art of Falling

Many people know the art of rising.
They have the incentive to learn it,
as they can foresee that
they will gain something more from it.

Few people know the art of falling.
They do not have the incentive to learn it,
as they cannot foresee that
they will gain something more from it.

Worth to note that
the application of both
the art of rising and the art of falling
has a time limit in one’s life.

Mark Knopfler - Basil

(The track is a direct tribute to the prominent British modernist poet Basil Bunting, whom Knopfler personally encountered during the early 1960s while working as a teenage copyboy at the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, where Bunting was employed as a sub-editor.)

My Saturday job pays six and six down
A copy boy at the Chronicle
Five cigarettes and two silver half crowns
Meeting Vince at Mark Toney's in town
Boy, do we get around
Basil sits there on the table for subs
But not a part of the Bri-nylon club
Ancient blue sweater, too old for the job
Bored out of his mind
With the Colins and Bobs
I'm a jack and a lad
And I'm up for the world
And I've kissed a Gateshead girl
He calls for a copy boy, grumpy as hell
Poets have to eat as well
What he wouldn't give just to walk out today
To have time to think about time
And young love thrown away
I'm a jack and a lad
And I'm up for the world
And I've kissed a Gateshead girl
Starlings swarming
A cloud over Grainger Street
Over the black church
Over the Black Gate
And the shadowy Keep
He peers through his wire rims
At the fish and chip words
He's supposed to dish up and forget
His drudgery now has become slightly blurred
By one of his Players untipped cigarettes
Bury all joy
Put the poems in sacks
And bury me here with the hacks
In the summer the fair
Will stretch over the Moor
Lovers will lie and make out in the park
Basil puts on his old duffel and scarf
And goes out into the dark

The Other Side of Life without Someone

In the workplace,
everyone is replaceable.

In love,
don’t say so easily
that everyone is replaceable.

Some people love only one person
for their entire life.

Ruelle - The Other Side

I don't want to know who we are
without each other
It's just too hard
I don't want to leave here without you
I don't want to lose part of me
Will I recover?
That broken piece,
let it go and unleash all the feelings
Did we ever see it coming?
Will we ever let it go?
We are buried in broken dreams
We are knee-deep without a plea
I don't want to know what it's like
to live without you
Don't want to know the other side of a world
without you
Is it fair, or is it fate?
No one knows
The stars choose their lovers,
save my soul
It hurts just the same
And I can't tear myself away
Did we ever see it coming?
Will we ever let it go?
We are buried in broken dreams
We are knee-deep without a plea
I don't want to know
what it's like to live without you
Don't want to know
the other side of a world without you
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
I don't want to know
We are buried in broken dreams
We are knee-deep without a plea
I don't want to know what it's like
to live without you
Don't want to know
the other side of a world without you
Can't live without you

May All Wishes Come True

A single shooting star,
a thousand wishes—
and among them,
some wishes conflict with one another.
That is to say,
there will always be wishes
that go unfulfilled.

If that is the case,
then make more wishes.

_

Wishes - Le Couple

Wishes - Le Couple

I looked in the sky and there I saw
a star shining so bright above
I closed my eyes and wished upon the star that
I would fine true love
Someone who needed me
Someone to share my life
For a love that would be true
I would wait forever
So...no...matter how long it may be
I will be waiting
One star-brighter than the others
Two Hearts-beating for each other
I believe wishes really come true
Love at first sight I knew it from the moment
when you said hello
I hoped you felt it too,
but we both so shy-how was I to know
When you reached for my hand
I knew you were the one
We laughed and talked for hours like
I'd known you forever
Like...a...dream or something from a book
True love had found me
One star-brighter than the others
Two Hearts-beating for each other
Noe I see wishes really come true
You just have to dream
Nothing's as bad as it seems
To be...believe me
Someone's waiting for you to try
There in the sky
One star-brighter than the others
Two Hearts-beating for each other
You will see wishes really come true
You can't stop believing-wishes do come true
You gotta believe me (wish on a star)
wishes do come true...

A "Passerby," or a "Transient" in Life

On the journey of life,

we encounter many people.

Their faces may not be indistinct.

We recognize their presence,

yet we have no interaction with them,

not even a nod of acknowledgment.

These are the "passersby" in our lives—

mere extras in the background,

the "Passerby A" , "Passerby B"...

On that same journey,

we also meet others with whom

we do interact:

some may be mere acquaintances,

others close friends;

some become lovers,

while others turn into bitter partners.

These are the "transients"

who cross our paths,

the "Transient A" , "Transient B"...

This leads me to wonder:

in the context of my own life,

am I merely a "passerby,"

or am I a "transient"?

Walking by the world

Alex Chang Jien
Derek Shih
編曲Arranger:JerryC

WOO~~WOO~~
Ha A~~Ha A~~

Noisy Life

Life is noisy.

But it makes me nervous if
I can’t hear it.

I heard a familiar song
Just as I thought that,
I realised it was your laughter
Before my heart could
process it as mere coincidence
The sound of you flowed into
the gaps inside my heart

When eternity looked at us with pity
You smiled as if you wondered why
At ease you rearranged the order of
the important things inside me without asking

Instead of embracing each other,
we silenced our voice and screamed
Even if mocked for being pathetic,
you chose a life
No one had ever taught you

Your life is noisy
But it makes me uneasy if I can’t hear it

I know now that I can never go back to
Who I was before I knew you

When eternity looked at us with pity
You smiled as if you wondered why
At ease you rearranged the order of
the important things inside me without asking

There is a song in this world
That only we can hear
To play that song
The meaning of life
Is insignificant

It turns into a blue sky

Sometimes when it rains,
I hope that it turns into a blue sky,
just as I need at the moment.

But sometimes when there is a blue sky,
I hope that it gives me a rainy day instead.

I had better follow
the weather forecast more closely.

_____

Pomplamoose - Blue Sky (Electric Light Orchestra)

Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' everybody's in the play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day, hey hey
Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today, hey hey
Mr. Blue Sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Mr. Blue Sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey you with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration, Mr. Blue Sky's up there waitin'
And today is the day we've waited for
Oh Mr. Blue Sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there Mr. Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you
Hey there Mr. Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you
Mr. Blue, you did it right
But soon comes Mr. Night creepin' over
Now his hand is on your shoulder
Never mind I'll remember you this
I'll remember you this way
Mr. Blue Sky please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long (so long)
Where did we go wrong?
Hey there Mr. Blue (sky)
We're so pleased to be with you (sky)
Look around see what you do (blue)
Everybody smiles at you
