The difference between "girlfriend" and "girl friend"

To study word usage, 

we should distinguish between 

'girlfriend' and 'girl friend.' 

Dictionaries tell us that 

the term 'girlfriend' refers to 

a female partner in a romantic relationship, 

while the term 'girl friend' refers to 

a female friend in a non-romantic or 

platonic relationship.

What about one-way love toward a girl? 

I suggest it could be expressed as 'girl-friend' 

(for the purpose of this blog only).
